Casebearer 1.0, 2021 in collaboration with Dave Greber
Casebearer 1.0 is a video produced for "A Structure For Changing Circumstances" (a project of PARSE NOLA + Blind Carbon Copy.) The title takes inspiration from the highly adaptive species commonly known as the 'Bagworm' or 'Case Bearer' who creates a cocoon home for itself from whatever debris it finds. In the context of living in New Orleans, a city that faces coastal erosion and is threatened by sea-level rise, the Bagworm serves as a model example of a resourceful nomad that acclimates itself to any given situation. To make this video series, the artists co-authored a poem from the perspective of the Bagworm. Using artificial intelligence to generate voice, imagery, and sound--each of the renderings of the Bagworm exists as a stuttering enigmatic sage that muses over its own lifecycle, from birth to transcendence.
